National Bike-to-Work-Day: Boosts Energy, Productivity, and Performance at Work

May is National Bike Month, sponsored by the League of American Bicyclists and celebrated in communities from coast to coast. Established in 1956, National Bike Month is a chance to showcase the many benefits of bicycling — and encourage more folks to giving biking a try. In 2018, National Bike to Work Day will be May 18.

According to Carey Williams “Bike to Work” article for Bloomberge Businessweek, “it’s good for you!” to ride to work. You can find his article and a timeline of the two-wheeled commute at this link. Below are a few work related benefits that Williams lists in the article:

  1. You have 20 percent more energy after pedaling at a low-to-moderate clip in the morning.
  2. You’re that much more productive if you do a moderate cardio workout before the workday.
  3. Thirty minutes of easy bike riding boosts cognitive performance.

 

Locally, here in North Texas, on Friday May 18th you can commemorate National Bike to Work Day. As an incentive, DART invites you to visit one of the “Energizer Stations” on your route for snacks, drinks, free bike safety checks and more. Stop by from 7 to 9 a.m at any of these locations (link):
