Searching for a job can be a stressful and overwhelming process. Many have written about the benefits of “mindfulness” in stress reduction and nurturing well-being. But what exactly is mindfulness?
A mental state involving heightened awareness of one’s feelings and sensations of the present moment (Webster’s New World College Dictionary, 5th ed., 2018).
There are several ways you can incorporate mindfulness into your career development and while searching for a job. According to an article published on Thrive Global, which is an organization that seeks to contribute to the dialogue on the “epidemic of stress and burnout” that was founded by Arianna Huffington, there are several steps you can take to be mindful while searching for a job. Some important steps include setting a schedule for yourself, where you balance searching for a job, along with your other priorities. It’s also important to consider your inner dialogue. It’s okay to feel overwhelmed. Show yourself some compassion and alter your inner dialogue so that it is positive and affirming.
