Summer can be a great time to hang out with your friends and take a break from school, but it can also be a good time to get a jump start on your future. Many colleges offer Pre-College Summer Programs that allow high school students to get a taste of college life. Students live in the dorms, eat in the dining halls, and take real college courses (some of which can be used for credit) over the course of several weeks. Although some programs do cost money, many institutions offer free programs for a more cost-effective option.
Here in Texas, schools like the University of Texas, Texas Tech, University of Houston, and more offer a number of Pre-College Summer Programs or camps in a variety of fields. While it might be too late to apply for any programs this summer, it is never too early to start thinking about next summer. Explore and determine whether or not this is an option you would like to pursue in the future!
